You can use this parameter of the Production Setup to determine how Quantity to Consume with Consumption Type set to Materials shall be updated when a Production Order is posted. You can choose between the following options:

The Quantity to Consume field of the Production Line will be updated and posted when the Production Order is released. Quantity to Consume will be updated on the basis of the quantity being released. |

Successive by Time Consumption |
The Quantity to Consume field of the Production Line will be updated and posted when Consumed Time is posted to a Production Line of the Type Operation. Only Production Lines of the Type Item that are placed above the current operation line will be posted. |

Proportionally Successive |
The field Quantity to Consume of the Production Line will be updated and posted when Consumed Time is posted to a Production Line of the Type Operation. Only Production Lines of the Type Item that are placed above the current operation line will be posted. Quantity to Consume will be updated proportionally on the basis of the Consumed Time. |

Successive Backward Flushing |
The Quantity to Consume field of the Production Line will not be updated and posted until the Production Order is reported finished. Quantity to Consume will be updated on the basis of the Quantity to Report Finished. |
